Frequently Asked Questions

Which league is the LS Beasts Baseball Club going to be playing in?

The LS Beasts will be playing in the Can-Am United Baseball League, which features elite level teams from Ontario, Quebec and The Northeast USA.

Where are the tournaments that the teams will be travelling to?

Each team has a different tournament schedule (3 tournaments in the US, 1 tournament in Montreal plus the League Championship Tournament) however all teams will be playing the following 3 venues:

Cooperstown, New York

Bethpage (Long Island), New York

Montreal, Quebec

When does the season start and end?

The Can-Am United Season starts May 1st and ends August 1st with the Championship tournament that first weekend in August. Most games are played in May and June with some games in July. The schedule is made to accommodate teams so they can participate in the best travel tournaments which are the focal point of Travel Ball teams, where they play against the highest calibre of teams at state of the art facilities. Travel Ball teams in the older divisions (14u and higher) typically play in front of scouts and coaches from Prep Schools and US Colleges). Because many of the best players in the US play for their High School teams in May and June, the travel tournaments are scheduled after school ends.

Can I tryout for the LS Beasts?

We hold talent detection sessions to assess interest in a player to join our roster. These showcases are designed to allow players to show off their skills and be offered a spot on our roster. These sessions are limited to a few sessions in February 2025 with offers being made to players to join a roster in time for Spring Training which starts March 9th 2025. Attendance at one of the sessions is required to be considered for the LS Beasts.

If I am offered a roster spot on the LS Beasts, when do I have to commit?

Roster spot offers are open for 48 hours. If you do not commit within that time the offer lapses and your spot may be offered to someone else.

What is my commitment if I accept a roster spot?

You are committing to make the first payment of your registration fees upon acceptance and the second payment on March 15th as well as attend at least 80% of the Spring Training sessions up until April 15th. If you have attended the requisite number of spring training sessions, the final payment is due on April 15th and will secure your roster spot for the season.

Failure to attend the minimum spring training sessions or to miss any payments, will result in the termination of your roster spot.

I am planning on trying out for Junior Elite, Regional AAA or AA. Can I cancel my registration with the LS Beasts, if I make a Junior Elite, AAA or AA team?

If you accept a roster spot with the LS Beasts, payment at time of acceptance and the March 15th payment is non-refundable. You can opt out at any time, and your final payment (due April 15th) will not be collected.

Can I just wait to see if I get cut by AA, AAA or Junior Elite then apply to play with the LS Beasts?

You MUST be offered a roster spot after having attended the Talent Detection Session and MUST have attended Spring Training with the LS Beasts to play during the season. If you prefer to play with your Regional association, that is your choice to make once but only if you have been offered a roster spot with the LS Beasts.

How does playing for the LS BEASTS compare to playing for a Local or Regional team?

The experiences are COMPLETELY different. Travel Ball is more of a commitment both financially and in your time (it's not for everyone).

With a local or regional association, you will usually be playing within 60 minutes of your residence (even for away games). With Travel Ball you will be travelling up to 2 hours for some doubleheaders on weekends.

With a local or regional association, tournaments will likely be limited to within the Province of Quebec and limited to 3 tournaments for the summer.

With Travel Ball you will play in tournaments in the U.S. on some of the nicest fields imaginable and will play in at least 4 tournaments during the summer.

With a local or regional association, you will be playing with the same kids fro your neighbourhood, school, hockey team etc...Travel Ball players come from all over the Greater Montreal area who are looking for a different kind of baseball experience that what the local or regional experience has to offer.

With Travel Ball, the experience is more holistic with players bonding through the travel experience, visiting new places together, and competing against a variety of teams in venues most people only dream of playing at.

If you are in the 11U Category with a local or regional association, you will be playing with simplified rules like no leading or balks or bunting. Travel Ball plays with the official rules of baseball, not a simplified version.

If you are in the 14U Category with a local or regional association, you will be playing at 54 foor pitching distance and 80 foot bases, as well as with -10 or -5 USSSA bats. Travel Ball plays on a full size baseball field with -3 BBCOR or Wood Bats.
With a local or regional association, the experience is limited to playing your games locally or regionally in similar environments making for a very "regular" season.

With a local or regional association, development is usually handled by volunteer parents of kids on the team, who may not have the necessary skills or resources for the most effective development of players. With Travel Ball most organizations (including the LS Beasts) hire professional coaches and trainers to properly develop players.

With a local or regional association, many seasons blend together and the overall experience is gauged by the teams performance with only those special championship season being remembered. With Travel Ball, the season is filled so many magical memories of friendship, comraderie and living life experiences together, that players carry with themselves forever.

What age levels are you rostering for the 2025 season?

The LS Beasts will be offering the following age categories:

11U (Players must be a maximum of 11 years old on April 30, 2025)

14U (Players must be a maximum of 14 years old on April 30, 2025)

16U (Players must be a maximum of 16 years old on April 30, 2025)

*14u and 15u may re-roster to 15u and 17u respectively

What is the talent level? How does it compare to AA Regional teams?

The level of league play is similar to AA regional baseball. U.S. Tournament play is typically more challenging than regional AA baseball.

Do you play with different rules than Local or Regional Baseball?

Can-Am United and Tournament play is Baseball as it is meant to be played. 14U players and up play using the same field dimensions and rules as MLB baseball. 11U plays from a shorter distance 50 foot pitching distance with 70 foot basepaths but all MLB rules are used including leading, stealing, bunts and balks.

Will everyone get equal playing time in games and tournaments?

The short answer is NO. Playing time is earned and coaches reserve the right to make all lineup decisions. We understand that you don't want to go to a tournament and ride the bench for the whole weekend, and that won't happen, but everyone on the team is committed to performing the best they can in a tournament and coaches will be making their decisions based on what's best for the team.

Where will practices be held, which fields will we be playing at for our home games?

We will be playing and practicing at several different fields in and around the Greater Montreal Area. We have also secured a sponsorship with Le Sandlot in Dollard-des-Ormeaux providing us with the indoor training space during Spring Training and during the season.

I played for another Can-Am United team in 2024, can I still attend the Talent Detection Session?

Yes, but we are not actively looking to get players from other teams in the league. If you liked your experience with your team in 2024 we strongly encourage you to continue playing with them.

The costs are prohibitive for me, is there any grant or assistance program I can apply for?

Travel Baseball is generally more costly than regional or local baseball. Besides a family's own travel expenses, the Club also must collect funds to cover field rentals, coaching staff costs, equipment costs and tournament registration fees. Teams will be doing their own fundraising and will be trying to reduce overall costs for ALL players. The LS Beasts Baseball Club is a non-profit organization and any surplus will be used for financial assistance programs. You can always request financial assistance from our Financial Committee which will be treated on a case-by-case basis.

What kind of bats are allowed?

In the league, 14U and older must use Wood Bats. There might be US tournaments that allow BBCOR bats.

In the league, 11U must use USA bats. There might be US tournaments that require wood and others that allow USSSA bats.

If I play for an independent travel ball team like the LS Beasts, can I ever go back to playing Local or Regional baseball?

Where you choose to play one season should not affect your ability to play in the following season. If a local or regional association penalizes you because you played outside your region through a release or in travel ball (which does not require a release), they are doing so out of spite and not because there is a rule that justifies it. You should always be welcome back to your region should you decide to return.
